Monrovia-March 24, 2021: The National Fishery And Aquaculture Authority(NAFAA) has disclosed that it will soon embark on the distribution of fishing nets to fishermen in Monrovia and it’s environs.
Speaking to Journalists, on the ELBC morning show March 23, 2021 , Director General Emma Metieh Glasco said the project were signed in the proposed budget of 40 million which was cutdown to 20 million through government support to secure part of the funding for fishing net distribution to fishermen.
Meanwhile, Madam Glasco clarified that the NAFAA authority observed fishermen using Musquitoes nets and plastic to fishing in the water which is destroying small fish in the entire water of Liberia.
She said the distribution of fishing net is in line with International best practice of using Modern net in other to save the lives of smaller fish in the water for future generation
She urged fishermen not to use plastic net to fish in the water of Liberia, because they observed that using such plastic net will help destroyer smaller fish in the embling environment of the water that could be keep for future generation.
According to her, the distribution of the fishing net will be given to fisherman in Westpoint , POPO Beach, New-Kru Town, Banjor Community among others to the secure smaller growing fish in water.
