Monrovia- March 23, 2021: United States Ambassador accredited to Liberia, Michael A. McCarthy Monday, March 22, 2021 paid a courtesy call on the Speaker, Dr. Bhofal Chambers of the Honorable House of Representatives of the 54th Legislature.
Speaker Chambers told reporters following a closed door discussion that the meeting with the Ambassador highlighted several bilateral issues relevant to strengthen the long existing relationship between the two traditional allies.
The meeting according to the Speaker was fruitful as several issues intended to cement the cordial bilateral relationship between Liberia and the United States of America were highlighted.
According to Speaker Chambers, Liberia as a sovereign state, under the stewardship of President George Manneh Weah remains committed to working with the Government of the United States of America, especially the Joe Biden administration in promoting the value of democracy and good governance.
The House Speaker commended the United States government for being supportive of the Liberia’s national recovery program with emphasis on the Millennium Development Goal.
He maintained that while it is true that Liberia recognizes the USAID Program as direct assistance from the American People to Liberia, the CDC led government craves much more support from President Biden’s administration to improve the Liberian economy.

The Speaker disclosed to the press that the Ambassador assured him of President Biden’s unflinching commitment to uphold the outstanding bilateral relationship between the two countries.
This is the first visit of Amb. Michael A. McCarthy of the United States to the Legislature since his accreditation as Ambassador extraordinary plenipotentiary of the United States of America to the Republic of Liberia.
