Monrovia- February 19, 2021: Hon. Thomas Goshua has frowned on the difficulties Liberians go through in seeking medication at health facilities across the country.
In a communication addressed to the House’s Plenary through the office of the Speaker, Dr. Bhofal Chambers on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 during the 10th day sitting of the 4th Session, Representative Goshua made specific reference to the John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital, the nation’s biggest referral medical facility and some other health facilities in the country.
He said regrettably the management of JFK and other public Health Facilities are yet to muster the courage to explain why the health centers are challenged when it comes to dispensing drugs to patients.
According to the Grand Bassa Lawmaker, drugs are purchased out of the health facilities in most cases and taken back at the Hospitals or clinics for treatment; thus making healthcare extremely difficult for ordinary Liberians.
Rep. Goshua said it is unacceptable to see government owned medical facilities without needed drugs; something he noted poses serious threat to the survival of many Liberians and other nationals in the country.
Meanwhile, the Plenary of the House of Representatives has mandated its Committee on Health to review a communication from Grand Bassa County Electoral District # 5, Representative Thomas Goshua, who has alarmed over the deteriorating conditions of Liberia’s health system.
The plenary, having discussed Hon. Goshua’s communication on the floor has concluded by mandating its appropriate committee on Health to do the requisite due diligence into the matter and give advisement to plenary in anticipation for an informed decision within two weeks.
