Monrovia- February 10, 2021: Marketers and residents of Happy Corner, down Waterside have alarmed over stink stockpiled of garbage pollution within the market surrounding.
Speaking to Monrovia Latest News on Wednesday, Feburary 10, 2021, the owner of Manemah Sheriff Business Center situated in Happy corner said, since 2019 to present they have been facing serious problem with hazards pollution with the over stayed of the garbage in the country. She said, the long stay wasted dirt in the area that could lead to exposing ordinary citizens to disease outbreak.
She noted that since the incident occured they are finding it very difficult for their customers to buy their goods due to flies, Mosquito, dirty water rolling from the dirt and among other disease which has taken over the entire site.
Meanwhile, she noted that they are calling on government through the Monrovia City Cooperation (MCC) Lord Mayor Jefferson Koijee to urgently take note of cleaning the environment to save the lives of Community dwellers and vendors who sell their various commodity in the. Surrounding.
She clarified that most of the stockpiled of garbage in the area were taken from Broad Street and it’s environs and placed at the site which is causing serious hardship for them which usually deprive their customers for reaching in the area to buy their goods for the betterment of improving their lives and to pay government taxes on time as stores owners who reside around the dumpsite.
According, to her the government headed by President George M. Weah needs to take the sanitation issue of the area very serious by cleaning the site on time to avoid residents dying from hazard pollution.
Madam Sheriff said during 2014 Ebola outbreak, they observed thousand citizens dying from strange diseases 76h in which they do not want to repeat the past incident of the Ebola outbreak that took away citizens lives in the country.
She noted that since the stockpiled of garbage was wasted at the site they have inform the Liberia Marketing Associon (LMA) authority concerning the satitution and the LMA authority said they are not in control of the said garbage site but MCC is fully responsible to clean the area day by day.
