AMLOGAL believes the call is in consonance with section 4;4.1 and 4.1.1 of the National Decentralization policy, and section 4.22 and 4.26(d) of the local government Act of 2018 which call for funding of sub country structures through budgetary appropriation to local government structure that must revenue sharing, financing local government.
Meanwhile, AMLOGAL at the same time commended senator Jonathan Kaipay of Grand Nassau County for his farsighted progressive and all inclusive call for budget appropriation for AMLOGAL.
Meanwhile, AMLOGAL has also condemned the increasing wave of rape in the country.
Futher, the Association called on the Government of Liberia through the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection and the Judiciary to increase and reinforce their constitutional mandate for the protection of of the future of women and children from all form of harms including physical and sexual harassment, molestation and assault, mainly due this malevolent, wanton and delvelish act of rape.
Further, the Association has pledged its fullest support to the March for Justice, a civil society led initiative against rape and other forms of sexual and gender based violence being meted out against women and children.
The Association of Mayors and Local Government Authorities also called on President George Weah to declare rape as National Security Threat, which must be met with not only the full weight of the law, but also a very timely, physical and rebust response, no matter its size and shape or whoever is involved.
The Association of Local Government Authorities of Liberia is the umbrella organization of all mayors of cities within the Republic of Liberia.
