Monrovia, Liberia, Nov.29,2019- The liberian government has been hit with another big communication crisis; deputy presidential press secretary, Smith Toby says Franch president, Emmanuel Macron is due to visit Liberia early next year while the minister of information, Eugene Nagbe says no French president is due in Liberia.
It be recalled on Tuesday during the Executive Mansion press conference, Deputy Presidential Press Secretary Smith Toby told reporters that French President Emmanuel Macron will early next month pay an official visit to Liberia.
He disclosed that a team from France has already visited Liberia on security assessment to pave the way for the French President’s arrival.
Toby told Executive Mansion reporters that President Macron will be accompanied by huge delegation to Liberia.
He said the French President is not coming to just visit the country and leave, but Liberia is expected to benefit greatly from his visit.
The deputy presidential press secretary said the pending visit by the French President is as a result of an invitation extended to him by President George Manneh Weah during his recent visit to France.
But speaking on the Okay Morning Rush on Okay FM, November 28, 2019, information minister Eugene Nagbe says he has no knowledge about the French president coming to Liberia. “It is a gossip, how will the president of France will be coming to Liberia, I don’t know as minister of information? No French president coming here, it is a gossip that those media entities are running with.” Minister Nagbe said.
This is the second times in less than a month the Government of Liberia is facing a communication crisis. It can be recalled early November, the ministry of information announced during her regular press briefing that government will arrest talk show host, Henry Costa but the minister of Justice told a groupof there journalists that there is no plan to arrest or is no arrest warrant for the talk show.
