(Monrovia-August 9,2019): A Special feature- The National Election Commission, (NEC) Certificates Senator-Elect Abraham Darius Dillon Today, But Who is Mr. Dillon that won the Coalition for Democratic Change stronghold Montsorrado county.

Senator-Elect Abraham Darius Dillon

Mr. Abraham Darius Dillon is a politician and an advocate. Mr. Dillon was born in the Port City of Buchanan, Grand Bassa County, in Liberia on May 30, 1969 unto the Late Wilfred David Dillon and Madam Hannah Pailey.

Acording to some sources and Mr. Dillion, he completed his secondary education from Wells-Hairston High School in Montserrado County in 1989 but some of his colleagues in the Coalition for Democratic Change and others have argued his secondary credential.

He has also studied in India, on a scholarship grant awarded by the Indian Government in 2006. He obtained a Certificate in the Courses of Parliamentary Procedure and Legislative Drafting from Lok Sahba Secretariat in New Delhi, India. “Lok Sahba” means “House of the People” or House of Representatives”.

In 2012 to 2014, he pursued an undergraduate studies at the Strayer University in the United States of America, with Concentration in Legal Studies before returning home uncompleted.

Senator-Elect, Abraham Darius Dillon is a Christian and happily married to Mrs. Sedia Hawa Dillon, thethe un which started in 1990 and still holds to date, he is blessed with two beautiful and loving children; a boy, Darius, Jr. and a girl, Dariusetta.

WORK HISTORY/EXPERIENCE Mr. Dillion, first was employment was in the private sector with Bridgeway Corporation from 1989 to 1990 where hehe work as a Clerical Staff.

He entered government in 1995. From 1995 to 2006, he work in the Offices of the Solicitor General of Liberia, at the Ministry of Justice. During this period, he served under the direct supervisions of four professional Solicitors General and six Ministers of Justice, respectively.  As Special Assistant to the Solicitor General from 1997 to 2006, he was significantly involved with preparing legal documents for prosecution and other related govt matters. The legal and other administrative experiences gained from my years at the Justice Ministry are worthy and very rewarding.

He has also worked in the legislature. From 2006 to 2007, he works as Chief of Staff in the office of the first Speaker of the 52nd Legislature of Liberia. He has also worked in the Liberian Senate as Chief of Staff to the Senior Senator of Bong County and diligently served in said capacity with efficiency from 2007 to 2011. 

SOCIAL, HUMANITARIAN & OTHER ACTIVITIES

In 2009, he was elected National Executive Board Chairman of the Consortium of Pressure and Interest Groups of Liberia, Incorporated. He has also served as Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Media United to Enhance Democracy in Liberia from 2010 to 2012. Senator-Elect, Dillon is a humanitarian who is currently assisting a number of deserving and under-privileged students in Liberia, ranging from grade school to college level.

POLITICS, ADVOCACY & AWARDS

As a politician and civil rights activist, Mr. Dillon has spoken against corruption and other societal injustices like the case with lady who beaten by Darlington George in madam government, the back our money protest and the June 7 protest under the presidency of president George Manneh Weah. He first contested Senatorial race in Montserrado County in 2009 but lost before it in 2019. He has a very strong passion in advocating for the rights of the underprivileged and voiceless and He is currently the Nationality Vice Chairman for Political Affairs.

Mr. Dillion has said that his advocacy has not gone with out some fateful events.

“My advocacy for equality and social justice has not gone without some fateful events. I was sent to jail for six months in 2008 by the House of Representatives for exposing bribery among some Members of the House. (Details can be found in the US State Department Human Rights Report on Liberia 2008 and 2010). However, I challenged my detention before the Supreme Court of Liberia through my lawyers to the effect that my detention was unlawfully done”. The Court ruled after five days and ordered my immediate release because it found that I was not accorded the “due process”. He said.

Senator-Elect Dillon, has won several awards from some credible media and other institutions as well as foreign dignitaries in Liberia and the United States of America as well; These few of awards below:

TRAVELS

On Travels, he has attended and participated in several international  conferences or occasions for and on behalf of the Government of Liberia in Namibia, South Africa, The Republic of Qatar and Nigeria. He was also a member of Liberia’s official delegation to the 65th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in September 2010 held at the UN Headquarters in New York, USA. The Delegation was headed by Liberian President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf. He has also traveled to South Africa, Dubai, Ghana, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Senegal, Ivory Coast, etc.
