Calm Returns to Jackson F. Doe Hospital in Tappita, Nimba County, After Supt Cooper And Others Interventions

Tappita, Lower Nimba County- Calm has returned to Jackson F. Doe hospital, in Tappita City, Lower Nimba Following interventions by Superintendent D. Dorr Cooper, Assistant Superintendent for Development, Railey G. Myers and the municipal government of the city on Friday, August 1,2019 after a day of violence in that part of the county.


The Jackson Fiah Doe Regional Referral Hospital in Tappita was on Thursday, August 1,2019 a scene of violent protest when aggrieved residents stormed the facility to resist the removal of a Neuro-surgical Microscope to be taken to the John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital in Monrovia for surgeries.
The residents beseiged the premises of the hospital after a helicopter from the Ministry of Health landed in Tappita to airlift the equipment, but with resistance from the citizens, the helicopter left for Monrovia.


According to report,a team of international surgeons are currently at the JFK Hospital for brain surgery.
In recent times, the Jackson Fiah Doe Referral Hospital in Lower Nimba has experienced what the citizens termed as “looting” ranging from CT scan that was taken to the Phebe Hospital in Gbarnga, Bong County five months ago.


The aggrieved citizens are demanding a full scale investigation into missing medical and essential materials from the hospital for years now.


Meanwhile, Nimba County Superintendent D. Dorr Cooper categorically stated that the Neuro Surgical Microscope should not leave the hospital until a proper communication is received from the Ministry of Health by his office.


Superintendent Cooper also constituted a committee to probe an investigation into alleged missing medical and essential materials at the hospital.


The Nimba County Governor at the same time recommended the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the two institutions that are going to have the exchange of the equipment.

In a related development, the Chief medical officer of Liberia, Dr. Francis Tetaeh has told state radio that the ministry of health and the team from America who normally does surgeries at the Jackson F. Doe has agreed to now carry out surgeries in Monrovia at the JFK hospital instead of the Jackson F. Doe hospital dued to bad road. He said that was reason, they went to borrow the surgery microscope from the Jackson F. Doe hospital. Dr. Tetaeh said, the machine will be returned after use.
