Monrovia- After Front-page Africa early Monday reported in her monday’s edition that the Vice President is contemplating to resign while Bomi county Senator Sando Johnson alleged comment on Costa show, alleging that President Weah said in the gathering of the president of Ecowas that Vice president Jewel is supporting the June 7 protest is false.

The attention of the Office of the Special Representative of the President of the ECOWAS Commission in Liberia has been drawn to the purported Startling accusations made against ECOWAS by the Liberian FrontPageAfrica newspaper publication of Monday, 3rd June 2019 and other media outlets, in which they reported amongst others, that both “the former President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf and the Vice President Dr. Jewel Howard-Taylor, were quietly aiding the organizers of the protest against the Coalition for Democratic Change-led government.

The office of the Special Rep. wishes to state in unequivocal terms that at no time during the official Visit of H.E. Dr. Jean Claude Kassi Brou did President Weah speak to the President of the ECOWAS Commission that the former President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf and the Vice President Dr. Jewel Howard-Taylor were supporting the planned June 7, 2019 Peaceable Assembly by the Council of Patriots.

It is therefore most unfortunate and indeed, worrisome that the ECOWAS was quoted to have allegedly expressed that the former President and the vice president of Liberia were aiding the organizers of the planned June 7, 2019 Peaceable Assembly.

The issues raised by the President of the ECOWAS Commission during his mission to Liberia centered on the need for all stakeholders to pursue consultative dialogue on their concerns and grievances as well as to ensure that the planned June 7, 2019 Peaceable Assembly is conducted in a peaceful and orderly manner and in accordance with the Liberia constitution. The President of the ECOWAS Commission also highlighted during his visit the need for the Government to take necessary measures to stabilize the macro economic situation in the country and to create the condition for investment an job opportunities. This message was amply highlighted to all the stakeholders, including President George Manneh Weah, the Vice President and the former President at all the meetings, including closed door sessions.

It is important to highlight that ECOWAS has consistently pursued a position of maturing and pleasant advocacy for a continued institutionalization of peace and security as well as development in each Member State, including Liberia. It is therefore uncharitable that an unfounded allegation could be made against

Against an organization that stands for peace such as ECOWAS. It is apposite to underscore that Liberia is currently facing challenging economic situation. It is therefore expected that all stakeholders, including the media ought to, as a matter of necessity, refrain from inciting people to unlawful acts through improperly considered action and rhetoric. ECOWAS will continue to work with all stakeholders to promote cohesion and undiluted unity to sustain peace and stability in Liberia.
