Citizens United to Sustain Peace and Democracy Group has filed in a Writ of Mandamu against the Gov’t and the protesters

Monrovia- On today May 28, 2019, a Civil Society group calling itself, Citizens United To Sustain Peace and Democracy, through the Center for the Protection of Human Rights, filed a petition to Honorable Supreme Court seeking the an Alternative writ of Mandamus against the government of Liberia and the Counsel of Patriots.

In a court citation under the signature of Atty. Sam Mamulu,Cheif Clerk of the Supreme Court, the group filed a eleven counts seeking a legal and factutal reason for holding the June 7th planned protest.

In its petitioned, the group petitioned both groups to ‘designate a venue where the government and members of the Counsel of Patriots mentioned as co-respondent will meet to present their petition; preferably the Samuel Kanyan Doe, sports complex located in Paynesville or the Antoinette Tubman Stadium located on UN drive Monrovia.

The petition filed by the group’s Chairman, Atty. Patrice P. Weah, also stated that the government of Liberia provide security for Protesters on the day of the protest and insisted that the court ensure that the June planned protest only be stage for one day and not more than June 7 as is being called for by members of the Counsel of Patriots.

In count one of the petition,stated that as citizens of the Republic of Liberia whose interest is protected and rights of the Lierbain people to Sustain the peace and democracy that we enjoyed;

The petition also states among other things that their contention is in line with article 13 and 17 of the Liberian constitution and in accordance with the public health law of Liberia which guard against which warned against conjugation in large numbers to advert and interrupt the transmission of communicable diseases.
