Monrovia, Liberia: A special feature – As the proposed June 7 protest take center stage at various intellectual center in Monrovia, here are views of the For and Against of the protest.
For-
The organizers of the June 7, have said that for the government to improve the economy’s system, government should change the entire economic management system, president Weah should fire the minister of Finance Planning Development Samuel Tweh, Nathaniel McGill, minister of state among others.
Those that in favor (For) of the protest have listed many things that have awaken them to protest on June 7.
Here’s what the chief organizer Henry Costa views on why he wants for the June 7, to take place.
In a lengthy post, Costa Said ” When a broke man becomes president and goes on a massive property acquisition spree, we must save the state, when he blatantly violates our constitution, we must save the state, when he regularly dips in and doles out our tax dollars as though it’s his personal coffers, we must save the state, when he callously undermines all our transparency and integrity institutions, we must save the state, when he flies out frequently in style and luxury on private jets with large delegations of sycophants while the economy bleeds, we must save the state, when he condones and benefits from a supposed mop-up fiasco and protects his henchmen who carried it out, we must save the state, when he violates our budget law by spending outside of it as he pleases, we must save the state, when he calls his critics enemies of the state, we must save the state, when double digit inflation keeps spiraling out of control with no mitigating measures or efforts in sight to curb it, we must save the state. When our President keeps quiet and never speaks to calm and assure the nervous populace that he is in control, we must save the state. I could go and on enumerating the legitimate reasons that underpin our call for a mass peaceful protest on June 7, but I will stop here for today.
My dear compatriots, come out on June 7 and let’s save our beloved country and make history together!”

Against –
Most of those who are in the government or supporting the government are against the planned June 7 protest and have different views all together about the protest.
A strong supporter of the government Garmonden Clinton wrote a long piece like this:
“When West Pointers came under attack from their own armed forces and little Shaki was brutally killed, the State did not need to be saved; pregnant women were giving birth on the floors; when NOCAL went bankrupt and $50 million Dollar squandered without any accountability, while the former President assumed full responsibility, the State did not need to be saved.
When a police director and EPS director, confrontation led to the death of an EPS officer and no one was held to account, the State did not need to be saved; when a senior EPS officer was caught smuggling drugs using the presidential escort vehicle, and was later pardoned, the State did not need to be saved; when thousands were spent on school for a few to study abroad, while the UL and other schools lied in ruins, the State did not need to be saved; when the TRC recommendations were tossed in the dustbin without any implementation, the State did not need to be saved.
Though billions of dollars were mobilized in international support and Liberians still lived in abject poverty, the State did not need to be saved.
Just a year and half into President Weah’s term, when donors support are not as forthcoming; when the UN has packed up and leave, hitting the economy hard, when the aftershocks of the Ebola crisis still have a long effect on the economy, all of a sudden Liberia is imploding that we must #Save the State.
Just when an officer of the AFL is been held to account for posting threatening messages on Facebook, we must now #Save the State?
Should we ‘save the state’ just when allegations of missing billions loomed and the government commissioned an independent investigation, bringing culprits to book?
Should we save the Sate just when the Government declares free college tuition instead of spending thousands on a few to study abroad?
Just when low housing units are being constructed for impoverished Liberians in rural Liberia, are you saying that we must now #Save the State?
Just when feeder roads, community roads and major Economic corridors are been connected, We must now #Save the State?
Just when the government is providing police protection for protesters instead of beating and killing them, we must now #Saved the State?
We can go on with the dishonesty and contradictions but one thing is clear!
Liberia does not need saving. The Government must be giving the chance to complete its democratically elected term. Every Liberian must play a part in strengthening our democracy and revamping our struggling economy. Our people made a decision, we must respect that decision”
With the both arguments above, we can say each of the sides has a point but the big question is who really wants to Save the nation?
